It means that someone close to you is going to stab you in the back (not literally); meaning he or she is gonna betray you.

To the ancient egyptians the cobra was the protector of the Pharoah. It symbolized his power over life and the promise of his rebirth in the after life. In general a snake was a symbol of healing (as seen in the caduses Medical symbol), a symbol of wisdom and eternal life since he shed his skin as an act of rebirth. If the snake is real, call animal control...you could be bitten especially if it is a cobra.

It supposed to mean that you have an enemy nearby. But that is just a superstition. Really the problem may be that it is summertime and since snakes are coldblooded they are just trying to get out of the heat and trying to get into a more comfortable environment. The 2nd floor of your house just suited the little critter. :-)

It means that you can make a couple of bucks, you can sell the thing if you can catch it before the dogs do it. If you are not in the mood for catching a cobra, run, run, run. I live in Asia and do it every week or so. ( Catching I mean. )

Cobras are indiginous to Africa and Asia, so unless they were imported, I wouldn't give much credence to the story (unless of course you're writing from one of these two countries).
