Oh MY GOD!! Some people and thier answers, Marijuana is not physically addictive, nicotine, alcohol, caffiene and herion are!
It can become habit forming, and chronic users do have higher rates of depression, but then so do cigartte smokers.
Marijuana is a plant substance most likely placed upon the earth by are maker....for mild pain and relaxant, cocaine and Herion for higher levels of pain, there are plants and herbs for almost all that ails us.
Yes smoking it has a effect on the lungs, I think is was meant to be used as a tea, or oral for the effect it was intended for.
It most certainly is not rank up there with other drugs!
Why is it not legal, well because the goverment and the major drug cartels don't want it to be, and the only reason the avg. JOE should want it to be legal is because they want to be able to use it and not get in trouble..........and I agree!
But of course this would drive up the price, taxes and all, which if you could grew it in your garden would lessen that too.
Its street price has not risen much in the last 50+ years, when it first became illegal in the 1950's.
Why is it not used for medical purposes......well drug companies can't patent it, (because its a earth plant) and have attempted to make a synthetic THC but was not even close......so they trashed it.
There is proble not many people left in this world that has not tried Marijuana in some form or another, they may not have inhaled.......but the brownies were great!!
The only reason I say that it should not be legal is because of price..........dam what kind of sin tax could they put on that??
As far as it leading to the use of other drugs.....that maybe a nother question, "what did you try first Pot or alcohol?"
But the goverment, drug testing labs, Drug Cartels, the prison system, social programs, therapist, all make money from Marijuana users.
I think if we just wait it out sooner or later it will become legal, its been a wish for old Pirate's and Hippies for a few generations now, my parents and yours once marched in the streets sporting flowers in thier hair to legalize are cup of tea.

I did a project on it a few semester ago and my two favorite points were these. Marijuana may not be dangerous alone but when combined with alchohol can have a pretty extreme multipying affect. You might argue that people smoke weed and drink all the time but they aren't supposed to be getting high. Society is not responsible for the actions of people using alchohol AND marijuana, just the alcohol which is bad enough. If marijuana were legalized and say sold in bars right along with alchohol, it would be most likely that people would use both therefore making an already bad problem even worse. Maybe there would be people responsible enough to know they should not be under the influence of both, but come on. If both were legalized than every casual social drinker would also have a nice pot habit and combined would make him even worse off than with just the alchohol. 2) All the same problems with alchohol would come about as it reached the consumer market. Companies would be trying to get everyone they could to smoke marijuana as that is what capitalism is all about. Magazine adds, Dubby the pot smoking hippopotamous tee shirts for the kids. People who never had access to psychotropic drugs before would then have them shoved in their face on a daily basis. Also, lots of marijuana users in America smoke the buds from the plant so they say its not that bad to be high, but if it were legal, nobody would smoke anything but hash and the effects are ten times as intense than buds so don't say it's not dangerous. You are almost completely incapacitated on strong hash. I asked for some pot in Amsterdam and he gave me a little brick of hash. I said "No, I want buds" and he laughed at me. He had to find some in the back room. He said nobody had asked him for buds as long as he had worked there, just hash. The box had dust on it.

Marijuana makes you dopey but it does NOT alter you like alcohol does. It doesn't impair you as bad and you're in total control, only your brain feels funny and you're dopey and hungry. It's not nearly as bad. I think pot should be legal. If cigarettes have 5000+ chemicals and pot has like 2 (don't know for sure...), alcohol is mind-altering and dangerous and deadly, and cigarettes are deadly too, then why is pot illegal? Pot cannot kill you, cannot alter your judgement as much as alcohol and has very little chemicals. It also lasts for a short time depending on the grade of marijuana you smoke. Stupid government. They don't know how to tax it and would have problems controlling it if it was legalized, thats the only reason it's still illegal. Marijuana IS NOT ADDICTIVE. Absolutely NOT. No matter what anyone says, that's BS.

I've never heard of anyone that died from smoking weed. Show me one fact from anywhere with proof to back it up and I'll kiss your *ss. The ganja does have a tendency to make one very lazy. It lowers all kinds of ambition and after continued repeated use, it makes you do....well...nothing. Some people are very vulnerable at this point and may venture out and try something stronger. That's where the problem exists. It may be a transitional drug that makes one try and become addicted to a more deadly drug. Of course alcohol has the same effect and so does depression in general. As long its regulated and people can use it responsibly, then there is no problem. They seem to have figured this out in places like Amsterdam. Pot is still less dangerous than tobacco.

Strictly from a health standpoint, studies have shown that marijuana contains much more tar, carbon monoxide and other dangerous chemicals than ordinary tobacco; that marijuana use affects fertility in both men and women; marijuana smoking has led to increases in cancers of the head, mouth and neck; marijuana changes the brain in the same manner as heroin and cocaine; marijuana abusers are four times more likely to report symptoms of depression and have more suicidal thoughts than those who have never used the drug; long-term users may suffer memory loss; marijuana affects school and work performance more than any other drug; the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that "there is no medical necessity defense for marijuana"; the Food and Drug Administration has ruled that "smoked marijuana is neither safe nor effective as a 'medicine' for any ailment"; and the National Institute of Health has stated "patients with HIV or any disease of the immune system, should avoid marijuana."

Marijuana and alcohol were made illegal at the same time and for the same reason, drug abuse.
Let's face it some people would get baked 24/7 if it were legal and they could afford it. Think cigarettes. They give you cancer and still people are addicted to them. And now the government is taxing them out of existence and restricting where they can be smoked to limit them even more.
Alcohol became legal because most people that it was a stupid law. Most people did not say, "Hey bring back my pot too!" Instead, they just smuggled it in or grew it themselves.
The difference here is in the addict. Alcoholic get drunk and drink more booze. Potheads get baked and pass out. Not much of a volume business there.
Alcohol was sold by bootleggers and gangsters who enjoyed getting rich quick at any cost. Marijuana has been sold by independents, just looking to stay out of jail. Why do you think the law wasn't repealed? Not enough pessure to do so.
You want proof that marijuana is dangerous. I want proof that it isn't, because if we make it legal then it will be out there like cigarettes and booze with a tax sticker on it and kids getting into it just like they do with liquor and cigarettes, and that is definitely dangerous. We're taking sodas out of schools for this reason. What says Joey won't get into your pack of Nature's Remedy, or whatever they will brand it, and steal a couple of lids for him and his buddies for lunch. "I think your son has a learning diability....No he's just baked." And don't say something stupid like you would know if he took your smokes. You won't know and as many as you will smoke you won't care. Why do you think they got rid of cigarette machines? Kids could get to them. Pretty soon it will be on 20/20 "Why Joey is taking summer school." Next thing you know you are in fromnt of a judge explaining why your parental rights shouldn't be suspended. You don't know the can of worms this will open until it happens and then it will be too late. Not to mention I don't expect the drug dealers are going to be too happy about your idea either. That could be dangerous too.

Marijuana is not as dangerous as other drugs, but, depending on its purity and the amount taken, it can affect one's memory and reactions, thus making addicts unsuitable for jobs that require concentration. It is true that these effects only come if high doses are taken regularly, but marijuana is not considered a threat to society because of its dangerous effects, but for the door it opens, the door to drugs like heroin and cocaine. I t has been proven that the citizens of the Netherlands, where marijuana was legalized, are unable to control their behavior and they become addicts and then, in search for more sensations they also explore the world of strong drugs.

I don't know anything about any drugs even though I'm in high school I don't need to know because the more I know the more I'm likely to use them but just say marijuana is unhealthy and can kill you or go on a website and search for the definition and it will probably say how many people die a year from it.

how often do u hear an weed smoker beating their wife or kids, alcohol is a differnt story. weed makes you relaxed its actually safer than both cigarettes and alcohol, weed makes you relaxed but it also makes you hungry. If it were to be legal the government would be making money but there would be no way to regulate the amount of people who have it in their possesion and who grow it already so it will never become legal, since it cant be goverment regulated
