I recently bought a brand new phone from cingular, and right now I have a prepay thing...but I've been using my phone a lotmore tan I used to, so it is costing me a lot. My friends have verizon and it seems like a great network, so I want to switch. Would I have to buy a phone from verizon?? I can't afford another phone. Can I get a verizon plan on a cingular phone? (it has the cingular logo on the front but it is just an average LG phone)

Cingular is a gsm fon verizon is cdma, cingular uses a sim and verizon does not, they are not compitable, you can use your prepaid fon with a cingular plan, or you can by a refurbished fon, put insurance on it and get a plan through vzw. or when or if you sign with vzw you usually get a free fon if you sign for 2 years

Depending on the type of phone you have you might need to buy a new one. I do know that Verizon uses LG phones as well, but since I used to have Cingular, I know they're on a different frequency.

I can definitely tell you from experience, I like Verizon a whole lot more than Cingular. Plans can be a little more expensive, but I get really good coverage, and I have never had any customer service problems, but that's just me. Cingular, on the other hand, were a real pain to deal with, with awful customer service included.

Give it a try, you have one month to change your mind.

Most of the time when you sign up with a network for a 2 year plan it can/does include a few FREE phones to choose from. Or ones that do not cost alot. Of course you have to stay with them for 2 years. That's what I did for my cellphone.

If you want to use your current phone you'll have to get the code to unlock it, enabling it's use on other networks. I forgot what the term for the code is called.

You might be able to use your old phone if you change companies, but most companies have offers for free new phones if you sign a contract, which sounds like it'd be cheaper for you anyway. You can have your address book transfered over easily.
