Deleting unneeded files and folders gives you more space on your hard drive, not your memory. If these files are loaded when the computer boots up, then that will save you memory. (such as quicktime, avg virus program-- these are in your system tray) Most programs are saved onto your hard drive, kinda like a file cabinet for your computer! So the answer is no. An analogy for you, if you read a book, first you "open" the pages and start reading. This puts words into your "memory" as you continue to read. When you are done with the book, you can put the book away on your book shelf. Your book shelf is like your hard drive, it stores things for you until you need them. So when you open a program, such as internet explorer, that loads the program into memory so that you can read, use it. If you where to delete internet explorer, you would have more space on your hard drive. Just like when you take a book off of the shelf, now you have more room for another book.

Yes, if you delete enough of them, it can make a difference. The best way to do it is with an uninstaller program. If you have Windows XP, you can use Disk Cleanup found in Programs under Accessories then under System Tools. You can also buy or download (sometimes for free) programs like Clean Sweep or PC Pitstop (which I use). The third party programs usually have more options. It's a good idea to back up any important files you have on CD's or at least create a restore point in System Restore (also in System Tools on XP) first before you use these programs or delete a bunch of files manually just in case.

Only if you are talking about a tremendous amount. You can put 1mil kbs on a floppy which amounts to maybe 150 files.. The stuff that takes up memory are your cache (temporary internet) files. Go to >tools>internet options> delete file>delete cookies>clear history. Now that will really free up your pc. Then you can go to >start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk defragmentation"..... If you do a disk fragmentation it will help put all your files and programs in order freeing up space that is caught between the files. (this may take awhile but it's worth the wait). Do it when you can be away from your pc an hour or so.
Hope that helps.
p.s. Don't forget to reboot after you're done.

If you're asking a question like this, you probably don't have enough experience to know what's really needed or not. Also, it will give you more hard drive space, not more RAM (random access memory). It won't make your computer any faster unless your hard drive is completly full. If it's not full, don't worry about it until you can have someone that knows what they're doing look at it.

It will, but if you're not deleting them yourself, and you use a program or whatever to do it like SystemSuite, it will delete stuff you haven't recently opened. Like, I'm a bit-time writer, and I had a bunch of files I typed built up in this one folder, and when I ran SystemSuite, it deleted all of them.

yes, it would give you a significant amount of memory depending on the size of the files and folders. just make sure you are deleting the right items or that you definately don't need them anymore.

it would just free up a small percentage of memory, though if thats what you are trying to do the ultimate thing to do would be just to get memory added onto your machine, it doesnt cost much anymore. :)
