In the match between Portugal and Iran, there was a penalty awarded for Iran (it was missed by them). But I feel that hand ball is a “total by mistake” by the Portugal Defender. Because he was off balance and on the way falling down, so he was tiring to balance him self by keeping a hand on the ground. At that time ball was at that place. But defender doesn’t know that. So hand ball was given. Is this correct? On what basis hand ball is decided?

And I was another penalty was given for Portugal in same match. It’s very correct. Because it was purposely handballed by Iran defender.

A great way to think about it came from the game commentators. A hand ball is called if "the hand plays the ball", not when "the ball plays the hand". Just a gut call from the ref. Intentional or not intentional?

A handball is a when you the ball hits you answer from your elbow down to your fingers, especially when it's intentional. But sometimes when it's not the ref will just say play on.

The NCAA rule; “Unintentional handling (the ball touches the hand or arms) shall not be penalized, even though the player or that player’s team gains an advantage by such unintentional handling.”

So they differ in different cases, but those are the main differences.

when a player hits the ball their his hand, it is considered as a handball. It is not considered as a handball when ball hits the hand. The most controversial case of handball is the "Hand of God" incident commited by Diego Maradona of Argentina.

it's not iran, it's mexico....that omar bravo....cant even score on two out right chances...it's lucky for them to advance to the next round....

and on what basis the handball is decided, simple, u have to depend who the referee is for the game...if the night before his wife wont blow him, he'll definitely blow the whistle for penalty at any slightest instance...
