The best cars that I have ever driven have all been Honda. The gas mileage is excellent, the maintenance is very low, and, yes, you can still get it in a stick shift. I have owned three Hondas in the last 20 years. Make sure that the first character on the vin number begins with a letter "J" since that means: made in Japan. The Japanese care more about the quality of the car than how many they make. American made Hondas are troublesome. I know people who have them and they always end up with anoying problems or some sort. Sure they come with a warranty, but, how many times do you want to return to the dealer to have it fixed? STICK WITH JAPANESE MADE.

In one word................JEEP. I am the proud owner of a 1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo, and it is the finest piece of automotive engineering that I have ever had to privelage to own or drive. I have 211000 Miles on my baby and it's still going strong. Adequate power, 20+ mpg and the best 4wd package on the market.
Good luck

HONDA/TOYOTA/NISSAN!!!!!...Believe me on this,JAPANESE CARS CANNOT BE BEAT FOR RELIBILITY OR GAS CONSERVATION! The average car gets 30 miles/gallon! They are VERY dependable and usually rate A+ in Consumer Reports! You will NOT regret it!
