From South Pacific-Some Enchanted Evening

From Oklahoma-Girl Who Can't Say No

From South Pacific, mine would probably have to be "Bali Hai". But I guess I'm a little prejudiced, my mother played the part of Bloody Mary in the local production my town held when I was a little girl.

As for Oklahoma, "I'm Just A Girl Who Can't Say No" makes me laugh everytime. But when Hugh Jackman performed "Oh What A Beautiful Morning," a few years back on the Tony's, it made me appreciate how pretty that song really is.

:)

"You've got to be Carefully Taught" is a brilliant expose' of prejudice. How sad that, after singing this song, Lt. Cable still cannot bring himself to marry Liat.

Also, from South Pacific, "Twin Soliques" is a unique means to let the audience know the inner thoughts of two characters.

From Oklahoma, I like "Kansas City" for its simple demonstration of the awe a hick experiences in the big city.

And the title song sure is among the most rousing in musical theatre.

I'm not a fan of Oklahoma, but I do often find "There Is Nothin' Like A Dame" from South Pacific stuck in my head.

Seriously, I'm in the grocery store singing "We got sunlight on the sand. We got moonlight on the sea. We got mangoes and bananas you can pick right off the tree. We got volleyball and ping-pong and a lot of dandy games! What ain't we got?
We ain't got dames!"

Naturally, I've received some weird looks.

My favorite from South Pacific is 'You Have to be Carefully Taught'. It deals with prejudice and how young children are taught to hate those who are different from them. LIsten carefully to the words.
