For all of the white people on here. Can you answer the following questions (WITHOUT GOOGLE)?

What year and where was Martin Luther King assassinated?
Who invented the gas mask and the stop light?
Who performed the first successful open heart surgery?
Who is Thomas Jefferson?
What year were slaves freed?
What year did the United States gain Independence?
What landmark case overturned segregation in the United States?
Who is George Washington?
Who is Daniel Hale Williams?

It kills me how white Americans swear racism is over, swear that this is the land of the free. Yet let anything reflect the diversity of this country that they feign to celebrate and they go CRAZY. All of you still have this notion that you're superior and that is exactly why not seeing yourself reflected for the shortest month of the year is a problem for you. I think it's really because it's the one chance people will not see what you like to pretend you are in the media, but the really deceptive and evil past that built this nation from the first slave down to Martin Luther's assissination by a white man 38 years ago.

For all you complaining that you need a White history month, check your damn textbooks and tell me how many white people are in there. Check your notes and see how many accomplishments by white people you've been taught about. The thing is, you are not given a MEASILY month to see your ancestors contributions to the United States, you learn this YEAR ROUND.

Moroever, your so-called history is DISTORTED. Why do we have holidays like Thanksgiving when we know White people caused the slaughter and near genocide of Native Americans.

The truth of the matter, ANYTHING that doesn't showcase white people 24/7 in a positive light disturbs you.

I guess I'm not some because I don't hate black history month, I think it's really kewl to celebrate your heritage and race for a whole month. My bloodline has german, french, english and italian in it, I'd be celebrating for half a year lol.

The part I really dislike is the annual parade on MLK day. I guess I don't like the way people act when celebrating the man's life during the parade. When I worked downtown, we had to hire extra guards in our parking lot, because on that one day there would be 15 break-ins or vandalism done to cars, compared to a total number of 8 for the rest of the entire year. It's like they descend on downtown, trash the place, literally leave trash everywhere, kids running out into traffic, then leave us to clean up the mess ... it's just awful.

I don't get it either, because every other parade we have is usually pretty good, and it's a big ole mix of people. I've always wondered if they thought it was their right to act this way because of racism and the fact that MLK fought so hard against it. I don't honestly know.

But no, I don't think it is white folks hating, I think we just back off in fear of offense, especially while you are trying to celebrate. Does that make sense? (sorry this is so long lol)

There are 11 white history months - whites just don't understand. I had this discussion with my History instructors since some of my white friends called Feb Hate-White-People-Month. They said that the curriculum called for teaching what it called for, unfortunately blacks weren't really a major focus for the ones writing the books, therefore they aren't really talked about much. These were white instructors, some old, some young.

Blacks need a history month so they can see people that look like them doing things that changed this country. The news just happens to have a video of the arrest when it is a black man being arrested, but when it is a white man, there is no video or mug shot. In our neighborhoods we see drug dealers are black, janitors, McDonalds workers, and renters. But when we go to the doctor they are white, lawyer they are white, engineer, police officer, elected officials, etc.

Many people are idiots, and you have to accept the fact that they are idiots and they are small minded, and that some people just have issues. I can't say that some white people cannot stand when blacks get their own history month, and i cannot say that some do like the fact that blacks get their own history month. But i can say this, i don't even think this month is acknowledged like most of the other holidays, like Independence Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, if you think about it, these holidays are associated by the a common group *Think on that to yourself, you'll figure it out.* Anyways, i believe that everyone in this world is just as important as the next, so there shouldn't be any big deal made out of this stuff, you feel me?

For SOME the idea of Black History Month reminds them that they are short-sighted and empty in their own lives. For me, Black History Month means that the United States of America is the greatest country on earth because we are willing to accept the fact that we a diverse nation, strong in spirit, pride and acceptance. A nation where a man can have a dream, a nation where we can all just get along, a nation where we can ask not what our country can do for us, but what we can do for our country. I am white, Irish, and Catholic but I don't give a rat's *** if you are Jewish, black, Pygmie or bow-legged, you are you; I am me and may the good Lord determine our fates. If my path is different from you, then "screw the torpedoes - full speed ahead" toward our destinies.

I can get why some people would be upset. There was a huge fight for equalitly. Okay, sure. So if white and black people are supposed to be equal, what's with BET? Black History month? Kwanza? White people (well, the sane white people) don't go around shouting, "Hey! Guess what everyone! I want my race to have their own channel, month, and holiday! But you better treat us the same as everybody else!"

No, it doesn't work like that. We can learn about anyone's race, any group's history, any time of the year.

I'm from Australia, so I have never heard about it till now.
You have every right to be proud of your history, I'm just curious as to why the historical events don't get celebrated on what would be their anniversary's?
I would be personally offended and would feel racially discriminated, if my government had a White History month. I think the real issue here is why are the events considered so irrelevant that they get lumped together in one month?
I would be fighting the government for name days. How can people respect your passion for your history, if you wont even fight to celebrate it on the days it happened?!

I think it perpetuates racism in America, here's why I think so. One reason is blacks are already a part of our history , its already in the school curriculum. We have black women in our Miss America pageants but feel it would be improper and disrespectful to have a Miss White America pa gent.Blacks have their own Miss Black America pageant which once again sets blacks apart from the mainstream pageant which incorporates all races .I don't understand why someone would set ones self apart like that and not expect to be treated as set apart . I appreciate it that you said some white people instead of all white people. I feel black people as well as all people have a right to learn and be proud of their heritage . Its just in the end we are all just people and that is the important thing to remember, we've all separated ourselves from one another too long already and I feel it just isn't working for us, we should all stop doing it. That doesn't mean giving up study of your heritage and being proud of yourself.

i dont hate black history month because its your right, to celebrate your freedom from oppression. Infact I think its been a long time coming and that it should be a time to celebrate your heritage and your journey to your own freedom from oppression and enslavement. What I wanna know is Why there isnt a Native American History Month because they went through more than their share of oppresion as well. Why should you guys just get a month lol.. not meaning to sound harsh in any way... you are very much entitled to it but I also think that Native Americans should have a months as well...and women as well. because black men even had the right to vote before white women did... women have always been oppressed as well.. i disagree with the people who say we deserve a white history month because we dont deserve it we were never tore from our homes and enslaved, so we dont deserve it... but i do agree that there seems to be a lot of hate towards white people currently when it isnt our fault what our great grandfathers done. Yes I am very sorry that this happened because it never should have happened. Human beings should not be used in this way, and treated like animals and made to serve others... but it isnt current white peoples fault. We didnt do this so why do black people show racism towards white people for something our race did to you years ago.. I do apologize for what they did and I have friends from all different races. I do feel bad about what happened but could you please not show racism towards us as well

People in America are racist against a culture that was been oppreessed segregated and misjudged. Black people are often misinterpretted because of high crime rates and gangs in their neighbor hoods which is definately the cause of them being seperated to live elsewhere, no jobs, and a lack of education thanks to the communities they where forced to live in because of the prejudice white man!
How can there be white history month? Wouldn't that have to include Italians, Germans, Polish, Austrians, Irish, Scotish, English, Czechs, Slovakians, British, Bulgarians, etc, Too many to list!
