That's an awfully big question. There are lots of ways to animate in Flash. If you just want to move an object over time, first convert it into a symbol, (F8) then create a key frame where you want the object to start, (F6) create another keyframe where you want the animation to end, move the object in that keyframe, then right click on a frame in between and create motion tween. Play the movie and the object will move.
For more advanced animation get a book or check out Flashkit.com. There are lots of good tutorials there.

Jason was right. This has a huge answer. If you know flash 5 or MX its the same. But if you don't know flash, well, here's a tip.
There are only 3 types of symbols in Flash:
Graphics, Moive clips and buttons.
Two tweens:
Motion and shape.
Motion tweens are done for symbols and Shape for shapes:)
Try a tutorial b4 you launch. and a good book would be Flash unleashed.

you are going to have to learn about motion tweening and onion skinning. Depending on what your animating that is. If it's something simple then you can just use a motion tween to say...make a ball roll across the screen. Use the help guide and/or get a book on it. They are very easy to find in Barnes n Noble type stores.

You have to be more specific, it depends on what kind of animation.
