A movie is a program that is shown ON a screen. A TV is the device that television programs are shown ON.
That is why you can be an actor IN a movie shown ON a movie screen. Or an actor IN a television program shown ON a TV.
Does that make sense?

Because a movie is IN a building while TV can be seen everywhere. In my country, sometime there is a movie outside a building, played in a big public park at night but close in a hurry when it is suddenly rain! We call it "layar tancap". So we are ON layar tancap.

Maybe it's because you're not actually IN a TV, you're on it. When you're in a movie, you're physically in it, you can't physically be in a TV. Well you can but that's pretty stupid.

im not sure. you can also be in pictures. i suppose you could be in television in that you belong to one of the many sectors of the television industry. then again iv always liked to refer to television stars as 'those folk in the tv box'
