I don't think Snape is evil. I think he is following instructions from Dumbledore.

If he were evil, though, he may not have killed Harry because other people were close by, didn't want to take the time. Honestly, I don't know, I have a hard time thinking he isn't evil.

Snape didn't killed Harry before he escapes because possibly that he just wants Voldemort to personally kill Harry. He did protect Harry for the past 5 years in Hogwarts so that he would gain trust from Professor Dumbledore that Snape was not a Death Eater. Until in book 6, Half-Blood Prince, Snape and Dumbledore had a small argument...and Snape just made the Unbreakable Vow to protect Draco Malfoy from anything by his mother. Furthermore, Snape let Wormtail to live in his own house! Possibility that Voldemort asked Snape to take care of Wormtail....we just wait till book 7 comes out and see whether Snape is evil...

In the book, Snape orders the other Death Eaters to leave Harry - that " "Potter belongs to the Dark Lord!" (Pg. 603-US Version)
Personally, I like the others believe that Snape is actually good. He had to prove himself a trustworthy member of the Death Eaters by accepting Narcissa's Unbreakable Vow. Ron tells us later in the book that if you break the Unbreakable Vow then you'll die. I therorize that Snape informed Dumbledore of what had happened and that he had made the vow, and as a result, Dumbledore had to make a decision. Either he could risk his life, or Snape's. I believe Dumbledore thought that Snape was a more important resource in fighting Voldemort, and so took the risk of losing his life.

Snape is not evil and I believe that he was following Dumbledore's orders when he killed Dumbledore. Didn't Dumbledore say something along the lines of "Severus... Severus... please..."??? I call that an order... because Dumbledore was dying already, and he wanted to save Draco Malfoy from a life in Azkaban. Remember that he had a drink from the lake? I think that that was the drought of the living dead, and that Dumbledore was already starting to die as it was. So no, I do not think that Snape is evil... I just think that he is an annoying kinda slimy git... who I have a luv/hate relationship with...

er...snape is a super weird character
i think he didn't kill harry because he is on the good side and by killing Dumbledore he kept on Voldemort's side and left Harry's. but he was still "good" enugh to keep harry alive so he can defeat voldemort in the very end. even tho, at the moment, i hate snape, but i think in the end he is actually a good guy. he just has a really bad past and a really bad way of showing that he cares.

if he were to be evil then it might be under the dark lord's orders that he was not able to kill Harry. He may not be evil and allowing Harry to go on to face the dark lord. It may have been Dumbledore's orders for Snape to kill him. With Dumbledore around Harry may be to reliant on him, now without him he will have to stand on his own and the death of Dumbledore may give him the fuel to fight.

It is hard to say if he is evil or not. Because some believe that he is under a spell and does not realize what he is doing. But as for him not killing Harry he is unable toi kill the son of the woman that he once was in love with.

I don't think Snape is evil. He's just following Dumbledore's orders. And I don't think Dumbledore is really dead. Maybe it's sort of a ploy to distract Voldermort or something.
