I do not believe that people would go through all the anguish that comes along w/ being gay; well u know having to tell ur parents, and not knowing how they will react,,,
Although< i nor any of my family members are gay//
I do not think it is a choice..nor do I have any ill feelings toward gay people....if my husband were as talkative, into fashion, and loved to decorate like my gay friend,, then I wouldn't need "female friends would I/???? (well, he has never really told me he was gay,,,but I can tell!)
I forgot: I do have a gay distant cousin , and when we were little/ i ask my mom why he didn't act like my brothers..and we were 5!

Being gay is NOT a choice, just like being straight is not. Unless you are gay yourself, how can you know, right? All the people who say it's a choice or it's unnatural -- so is being an ignorant cretin, and looks like you guys chose to be morons. That's life!

Thats her opinion just as you have yours.
In my opinion i think it is a choice. I think that it all depends on what has happened in your life.
My partners friend was straight until she was repulsed by giving a man 'head' and she thought that having relations with a woman was more appealing.
I believe that if you've had a traumatic past then that has an influence on your future..
however there are also the young who just wanna havefun and try things.I know a few people who, once they reached about 15-16, decided to experiment with males and females...after gettingthe vibe of both decided males were good but females were better. They CHOSE that they wanted to be with females.

The other day Oprah said, being gay is not a choice you're born like that and I agree. It is definitely not a choice.

Of course it's a choice. Just like deciding not to be. It's a wrong choice if you choose to be gay, but it is a choice.

Like derekjw said, if it was a choice, who would choose that life, knowing the prejudice and bigotry they'd be subjected to? I'm straight, but I have gay friends, and they are just like everybody else, except for who they do things with behind closed doors.

I really, really believe that it's genetics. I mean, why would you choose to sleep with someone that you don't find attractive, right?

But, long after I'm in my grave, people will still be arguing the point. Believe what you believe, and ignore the people that try to argue just for the sake of stirring up trouble. Next time she (or anyone else) brings it up, calmly say, "I'm not arguing with you." and walk away. Then you're being the grownup, and they can look like an argumentative 5 year-old if they like. Don't lower yourself to their level.

Your mom needs to read up on the subject. Being gay is never a choice. You'd have to be insane to choose a gay lifestyle. But if you are gay, make the most of it. I know gay men and they are handsome, intelligent, creative and fun to be with. Please tell her to read about being gay.

Trust me, if it was a choice, I wouldn't be. Life would be so much easier! I have never "had a choice" about who I loved. Being gay isn't about sex. Being gay is about who you love. You can have sex with anyone. Being gay is who you fall in love with, who you want to spend your time with. Its about feelings and when you know how to control those, drop everyone a line, please. . . there is no CHOICE. I never got asked, I never got to choose. I've only had one choice my whole life. Gay.

I think that is something you are born with it, of course, some people don't really know what they want, and they may force themselves to be gay, however, sooner or later they will realize that is not really who they are... Being gay really comes in the genes, it's all about genetics...
