Bring him with you, he'll be fine! There are guinea pig harness' that you can buy, or you can also just take the top of its cage (if its a conventional guinea pig cage), put your piggy in the grass, and just set the top over him. That way, he is protected and can't get away, and he can enjoy himself by nibbleling on the grass. My pigs love it when i bring them outside, and i'll leave them out there for hours.

Have fun on your trip with your piggy!

I agree that if your guinea pig is older it may stress him too much, but I travel and camp with a ferret without problems. I think it is best to have a pet like this close at hand to keep an eye on them, my critter sitter just can't keep up with the ferret (even caged) and will forget to feed her. We do not have air conditioning so the weather shock isn't drastic for her. Be careful in the car, that it doesn't get too hot, your guinea pig isn't in the direct sun, etc. while you are travelling. YES use the fan. I would not pat the pig down with water on a HUMID day, you can make it even more humid and worsen the problem. I got a very nice battery fan from Wal-Mart, it has a big base and says something like O2 at the top and takes 8 D cell batteries but runs for 24 hours (check it often anyway) and DO check on your guinea pig every hour or more often, make sure he is in the shade and has plenty of water. I use a frozen water or juice bottle in the ferret cage to help cool her, or a "water bed" of an ice bag like you'd ice a sprain with, filled with ice/cold water. Keep a close eye on your pet that he doesn't try to eat the ice bag if you use one. Do NOT use a Ziploc type or other plastic bag, a guinea pig would scratch/eat it and that would be an expensive vet visit and/or the end of your pet. If you could get power to where your are camping, I'd take an electric fan and extension cords as well. I travel with both types of fans for the ferret. Hope this helps and good luck!

How old is your guinea pig? If it is young, it might be ok to take it along. But an older guinea pig would not take the stress--you are talking about exposing it to an entire new world! A world that might have a disease or pest (bug) that it has never experienced before. If you can leave it with someone, that would be the best idea. Guinea pigs are great pets....but lousy traveling partners.

BUT it depends if the state park allows pets like guinea pigs..... I doubt so because a state park is a natural parks and might not allow domesticated animals...... I wasnt allowed when I went camping. They said the guinea pigs will run around (even though I said I had a carry box for Gini (guinea Pig) to live in....

GOOD LUCK!

It's probably not a good idea. Not only would the heat get to him, and possibly even kill him, but he could also pick up fleas or ticks or who known what other parasites. He could get worms from moquitoes, or bitten by flies. Try to find a friend you trust to come into your house to feed and water him, or check around at your locals vets' offices to see if they provide boarding for small mammals. It shouldn't cost too much for a guinea pig.

do you have time to condition him to the heat, like for a week put him outside to get use to it. as long as his cage is managable and you kept an eye on him you should be fine, remember lots of water and pat him down with water on humid days.

Taking him with you is risky, because rodents don't do well in the heat. I would put extra water bottles and food in his cage and leave him at home.
