Actually I think it is because they do not have the drive to want to play in the World Cup as all the other countries do..
Just look at the game between USA and Ghana...
This is Ghana's FIRST appearence in the World Cup and they advanced to the next round, and yet USA has qualified for the World Cup since 1990 and still lost..
It goes to show that they do not truly have the desire to want to play soccer and be in the World Cup

Ha first of all the American team has SO much talent on there and so much potential. They are just lacking the proper management (cough Bruce Arena) to reach their height as a team and right now are sort of staggering at a plateau. Bruce has been their coach for over 8 years now, which is the longest out of anyone in the tournament and is completly unheard of. He just focused to much on 4-5-1 formation and defense. That's why the US was having a bit of a scoring drought. Also he put players in positions that they weren't comfortable in so some of them didn't know what the hell they were doing and just making runs and half assing 1 v 1's. It was alot of things but US needs to bring someone fresh to the table with new ideas! They are a good team. Period. Watch their games and you will see it.

let's make one thing clear, USA has never ranked #1 in the world, as much as many americans like to think so.
They DO NOT have any talent or potential. In fact you could say that they suck. In order to actually make a great team, apart from having skill you need a good coach, great team work, a passion for the sport and good players. The USA soccer team has none of these.

I don't think that they even deserve to play in the women's tournament. I'm sure that the women's team would have gotten the job done. Today's game was horrible, after Ghana went up 2-1 it seemed like the majority of the players played with no kind of passion or desire. This made the loss even more disappointing.

No, you can't go there. They had a bad day with the Checks, and that set the tone. Doesn't make them wussies, just means they didn't play as a team and connect as well as they could have.
Four years from now, you watch, it will be a totally different team. I think they were inflated by 02 cup, and also by their #5 ranking, which in hindsight, I think we all can agree, was nonsense.

The US players are great soccer players, just... not compaired to the rest of the world... I also think the coaching was definately lacking and the US needs to hire a GOOD coach for a soccer-dominant country like... ANYWHERE BUT AMERICA!! Other than that, I really think that players need to chill on taking spills. I can understand trying to sway the ref's opinion, but DANG! These cats were falling from shoulder taps and junk like that (US & Ghana, too!!). I mean, it's getting a little out-of-hand... and so is the carding...

no..they just needed a differnet coach (maybe) cuz teh coaching decisions sucked and the players didnt really showed up....but it could of been that the payers wasnt playing in their best...position who knows but its gonna suck to wait 4 years to watch another usa team...play and maybe screw up (hopefully not) but ...to just watch the usa team play 3 games and get a total of 4....shots.....1 goal...by their own..not including a goal by the opp team..in 3 games!! pretty much was a shame

They have the talent, perhaps what they are lacking is good direction/coach. I guess they were to confident and relax base on their FIFA "ranking" and they underestimated their opponents.
