The same reason some people think all blacks like fried chicken and watermelon. That all Mexicans are lazy. Or that the Polish are stupid.
Stereotyping... Profiling... call it what you like, it's prejudice.

We as people tend to label, catagorize and generalize each into groups.
I'm convinced that most of the time it is because of our up bringing and environment that has molded the way we think and understand our society as a whole.
There is a cliche that was quite common and probably still is, "Birds of a feather fly together."
Basically, the saying is that a person is and does the lifestyle that that person is associated with.
Of course, this isn't necessarily true, however, it sterotyping does come with the territory.
Let me say this, no matter the differences of opinions or different preferences, there is never an excuse to be rude and disrespectful to anyone.

Because people fear change. I'm not saying that homosexuals are bad or that they haven't been around since probably the beginning of time, I'm just saying that in the past 20 years, more homosexuals have started to come out and to assert their rights (which they have, by the way), and that is kind of a shock to a lot of peoples' systems.

Im a Christian, Im also bisexual, but I am a Christian first. Ive had issues before with alcohol and drugs but have never been permiscuous. Even if bisexual "sex" is sinful, I have a whole lot less of it than straight Christians do ;) as for drugs and alcohol, I dont think they are gender specific, anyone can half problems with them.

My mother-in-law lost her lover of 36 yrs to Christ. I am religious yet, I cried the same tears I cried for my brother 1 yr before. Society only believes in what they see and not really feel. Ignorance is a sign of curiosity.

Stereotypes. Be the poster child and show 'em all that you're above that.

It's somewhat what the media portrays and what the churches tend to believe. I know there are awesome gay/lesbian people out there. The people who live up to the stereotypes keep them alive.

Why do people like you think these people are mostly religious?

If you really want to find an answer, go study psychology and anthropology.

Because people are to quick to judge and don't care what the truth really is! They listen to other peoples crazy thoughts and can't think for themselves!

Because unless they walk a mile in our shoes they can only guess where we have been. And since they don't often accept us as we are they make assumptions about what we do.

because most people who aren't homosexual don't understand homosexuality and therefore base it on what they hear in the media, see in someone they know is gay, etc. gay people are portrayed that way for whatever reason
