USA is the most technically advanced country in the US. We make the most powerful airplanes, ships, submarines, bombs and computers. We are the most technically advanced country in the world. How come we cannot make a car that competes with Germans and Japan? What US car competes with BMW? How about Lexus?? Why is US auto company going out of business because they cannot compete on their level??

Rather than submit to competitive pressure and change the way they are making cars, U.S. automakers are trying to build them on the cheap by outsourcing jobs to Mexico, Canada, even Korea (as in the case of the Chevy Aveo). They are also stubbornly sticking to their existing design principles and trying to sell them with aggressive advertising and incentives. And if there's one thing that American corporations and Republicans are good at, it's coming up with talking points and selling things as they are rather than taking honest steps to improve them. And as Al Gore pointed out in An Inconvenient Truth, we have the lowest fuel economy standards in the world, meaning that U.S. auto manufactures have been able to rest on their laurels while the rest of the world was busy engineering more fuel-efficient cars.

General Motors and Ford still make better cars than the Germans and the Japs... and if you are driving anything but, you should be ashamed with our boys and girls over seas dying for the country. By buying American products you keep people employed, those people pay taxes and our troops have body armor, so the next time you want to blame the President for not giving the troops proper gear..step back and blame yourself if you drive a foreign vehicle...anyways American cars are still more reliable than foreign, I am 35 and when I was in High School everyone said that American cars were crap, but I see more American cars from the 80s on the road today than Jap cars..and BMW and mercedes are pretty crappy after about 15-20 years..I currently drive a 2001 Grand prix, with 100,000 miles onit... I carpool with 3 other people, my car gets as good of gas mileage as their Civic and Kia..has much more foot room in the back seat, and I can fit all our gear in the trunk...it will be on the road(Barring accident) for 10 years past any of their cars.

I DARE YOU TO GO INTO ANY MALL PARKING LOT, I BET YOU 95 OUT OF 100 TIMES THE OLDEST CAR IN THE PARKING LOT WIL BE AMERICAN, AND USUALLY A GOOD 5 YEARS OLDER THAN THE OLDEST FOREIGN CAR.

P.S. my 52 Chevy still has the original motor, with slight carb upgrades and suspension customizing, I would like to see an 82 Totota in as good running condition

i think 1 reason is you can compete with the wages over seas, what an average person makes a week here, over seas could be a month or 2 months pay there and most all companies over seas are ran by the government so theres no Workmans comp,EPA things to that nature.

Well because American doesn't improve things to make the drive more ease to use like: the dodge neon that i have have button that is really hard to reach. The corolla that I have, is so easy to use and you can press the button without take your eye off the road.

It's not in the automaker's financial interest to do so.
