I know Gibson Les Pauls are nice but some of them are way too expensive... there are also Epiphone Les Pauls and they are a lot cheaper, do the have worse quality though? If you have any other electric guitars youve tried and were great let me know.

I would get a Les Paul studio version much cheaper, because it doesn't have all the bling on the fret board.

I've played Epiphone guitars for over 10 years. They're a few steps up from the bargain basement Strat or Tele copies. They sound great. Play an Epiphone and then the Gibson equivalent. If there's no difference to your ears, get the Epiphone. Take a guitar player who can look at it for imperfections. Never buy a guitar sight unseen (or unheard) I'd suggest the Les Paul or SG. They run about $350 - $500. After that, find a guitar tech at a local music store. Have them set it up and replace the plastic nut with a bone nut (This should cost no more than $100). Then, you should have a good solid guitar that can grow with your ability. Good Luck. Have Fun.

You can buy a lot of guitar for $600 - I'm partial to Fenders - you can buy their standard series Strat for about $350 - new - Ibanez andSchecter have good guitars in that price range there are some American made Strats for under $600 PRS has a series it calls the SE and has several models in that price range. Some of the Epiphones are pretty good but they don't have the top of the line electronics in them and I don't think they sound the same as the Gibsons - take a look at musiciansfriend.com. go to the local Guitar Center Store

HAAAHA...thanks, you helped me realize how lucky I am. I have never had to pay for a guitar and I have three.
MY dad gave me a small, Kohner or something like that when i was 8. My sister and mom was following a guy that was moving, and had a ton of stuff on the back of his truck. A guitar fell off, (Jackson Professional, electric) and they took it. And not to long ago, my dad is letting me use his Gibson G-45, not J-45, that he bought from when he was in high school.
Sorry dude, i kinda just typed a story there. Mostly just to get the 2 points.

Martins are great. Yamaha is likewise sturdy. i assume that i'm no longer lots of a help with the aid of fact my acoustic is a lesser call form and it wasn't in that budget. Its a Johnson. Mine replace into the one hundred to 200 dollar variety.

epiphones arent bad but u might get bored with it/ grow out of it- id suggest a wilson brothers ventures guitar - its a great guitar- used by the ramones but sounds great with anything

i don't know how much they are now but one year my mom and dad got my brother an Ibanez and it was the best until his best friend hocked it for cash to buy smack
