if you have a mix of old strings and new strings on a guitar(EX: 3 newer strings and 3 older strings) is that bad? Does it really matter other than the fact that 3 strings make a little different sound?

Replace all strings. Your guitar will stay in tune better as well as sound "Cleaner"

Its a temporary solution. You wouldn't want to record. Its possible only you would notice the difference in tone. Newer strings have a crisper sound. Get some light gauge high end with heavy bottoms.

i use to think about doing this because the unwound strings get dirtier or break a lot faster but the wound ones are actual gathering dirt in the little grooves and will lose a lot of sound
bottom line- change them all
