Do you follow an order you know is morally wrong, or do you take a stand at peril to your career and personal liberty?
That is the question. Abu Graib gave us several examples of the first choice, and I expect we'll hear a lot more of these stories before all is said and done in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
You've presented us an example of the latter choice. There are a few more below. This is what courage looks like.

I think he's a weenie! He signed a contract! He took an oath! He sucked the military and our country dry of what they could give him and now he wants to renig. I am a former Navy Corpsman with the reserves and when I was activated for Desert Storm, I served my time honorably! Others need to do the same. This officer knew the risks.

He joined sucked up all the benefits with the knowledge he may some day protect our country and us civilians living here, The Uniform Code of Military Justice is force fed to you to understand it and you do. He should be court marshaled and serve what he is given. You do know someone else will be called up to fill in for him. Those people are leaches,, suck you dry and when needed decides he doesn't like it anymore. Give me a Break!!!

This guy should be tried as a deserter. He reaped the benifits of VOULENTEERING for the Army, most likley schooling being one of them. Now that there's a war and it's his turn to step up to the plate, he's backing out? That's cool, throw his *** in jail and then make him pay back all the benifits he's ever recieved and let him be on his merry way.

I don't think an officer would refuse. You will have to provide proof that it was an officer. I came back from Iraq in January and you'll have to do some major convincing.

See, his problem is that he swore to defend the Constitution. Congress consented to Iraq so, Constitutionally, our presence there is legal ( no matter what the anti-war activists say ).

I say lock him up, strip him of all rank, a dismissal (equivalent to a dishonorable discharge for officers), and send his worthless butt home in disgrace.
