my own private idaho, cause it depicted homelessness, prostitution and drugs realistically, not hollywood glammed out version. truthfully gritty and keanu and river did excellent jobs as a rich boy/family reject and a narcoleptic male prostitute.

I was very impressed with both the brutal realism of Elephant and the avante-garde, non-linear style of Last Days.

And technically the person who wrote Jay and Silent Bob was correct, because Gus Van Sant did act in that movie. You never specified that it had to be a film that he directed.

I haven't seen all of GVS's films but I have seen Drugstore Cowboy, My Own Private Idaho, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, To Die For, Good Will Hunting, Psycho, and Finding Forrester. I liked all of them. I think he is a talented and very human director. I still love Good Will Hunting best though. Because it is so personal, because Robin Williams is superb, because the guys who wrote it enjoy acting it so much. All that talent on one location for weeks on end. That must have been a very strenuous party! GWH is a movie that makes you want to root for all the players. Everyone cast is perfect and he gets wonderful stuff from them. I never once felt I had to suspend disbelief watching that film. I think he was robbed on the Oscar!
