I don't think they are real, and I've studied the answers for this also. Adam is basically the Hebrew word for 'human being/humankind' and Eve is basically the Hebrew word for 'life.' Humankind was created from the dust (Adamah in Hebrew - interesting word play with Adam - humankind. It is an ancient symbolic story about how humanity came into existence. Also, if you look at Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, you'll see that there are two creation stories that stand in direct conflict with one another. They are just stories with great theological import (just my opinion there). And for whatever this is worth to you, most biblical scholars do not believe that Adam and Eve were real people. Yes, I believe that Adam and Eve were real. They were the first humans. God created them, probably about 60,000yrs ago or so. (I believe the earth is 4.5 billion). I think that maybe the answer to your question might be found on www.reasons.org, but I know that the Bible is God's word because i've studied the evidence for it.
