Whales eat the entire time they are swimming. I tried it once with a sandwich, and it did not work out so well.

Whales are born with a coat of blubber, kind of like the insulation in our houses. They need it to keep warm in the Artic waters, and they'll never lose it. That blubber is healthy for them, just like some fat is healthy for us. Now, when you see a real fat whale, this'll be easier to understand. If you want to see one, I suggest a visit to seaworld.

well you see they eat TONS and TONS of food each and every day and they swim real slow...and seeing they dive real deep, their bodies get so cold that it stores the excess food as a layer or two of fat to insulate them from the cold water...
now if you could get the whales to swim down south in the warmer water and not dive to the cold deep water, and make them swim faster, you would see them start losing their body fat ...
smile
good luck

whales need all that fat to insulate them in cold seas. They are blubbery because they have to be. and really, its not like they move very fast. its the equivalent to stepping 4 inches at a time EVERYWHERE you'd walk.
