Envy often comes from our own feelings of insecurity and failure. It is painful sometimes to see the success of others and feel that we have fallen short of what others expect of what we have expected of ourselves. Sometimes the pain we feel causes us to lash out at others by saying hurtful things to them or by spreading negative remarks that diminish their success...so that we can cut them down a little and make ourselves feel better. When you are the victim of someones hurtful behavior it is sometimes helpful to look at why the person may be feeling diminshed or put down by your success--maybe you can talk about it and get it out in the open. Otherwise, you may have to just give this person space for awhile until s/he works through it.

I think that we all want to be the best that we can be, but we sometimes see others success as our failure (especially if they have something that we don't).
As we truly complement other people, and continue to seek out our own successes, we will be more happy.

They are jelous.
They are jelous that you weren't as suseptible as they were to what ever it was that slowed them down.
Just try to be an emotional support to them, and assure them that if you can do it, ANYONE can do it. I say that to my two very jelous sisters, who think life handed them less then everyone else, when in actualality, they were handed something and they threw it away!
Just pitty them and feel bad for them.
