I've heard of it, never met one though.
Speaking from a metaphysical point of view---there is energy all around us. The Indians call it Prana. The Japanese call it Ki. The Chinese call it Chi. This is Life Force Energy and we are surrounded by it. When we breathe in, we are breathing in Prana, or life force energy.
So, supposedly (again, I haven't met one yet), if you reach a certain level of spiritual development, you can actually absorb everything your body needs just from sunlight, water or just plain air.

Yes, I have heard of that before... When I was a kid back in the 70's I think, this fellow was on Johnny Carson talking about that. It's a scam, of course. Something to hoodwink the gullible out of some cash. Is it still out there???

Yes. Every time this has been put to the test it has been discovered that they eat when no one is watching.
There was an article about this in Fortean Times a couple of years ago.
