I was out at the beach a little too long the other day, and got a mild sunburn. After it all cleared, it started to peel, but only parts peeled off, and now several days later, I look like a leper or like I have a case of cancer on my shoulders. I have dark spots that didn't peel, and lighter spots where I did...I've been moisturizing and trying to get the rest to come off, but it's not budging...it's very strange. Any ideas?

Nope not strange at all, I lived in Australia for 7 years and saw this a lot!. I would bet you have fair skin. As your skin has less melanin(what makes you tan etc.) than others with "darker"skin, you tan slowly, if at all. As skin is not uniform in its melanin content (bet your face was sunburned all over!) This would explain the "Splotchy" look on your skin. Was this the first time this season you went out under the sun? well get a good Sunscreen with a 10-15SPF, put it on heaver where you burned , and lightly where you only "Splotched" Also, age has a lot to do with this, so be patient. Limit your time in the sun, remember you only start to "tan" when you are out of it. Good luck, G

stay out of the sun or you will get a very painful burn, the skin will even out eventuallyas long as you are moisturizing the dead skin will come off, after that you can put a self tanner.
