Another reason may be that despite what you try to prevent a pregnancy there are still rare exceptions that you hear of. Such as having sex on your period and winding up pregnant-- which many people believe to be a myth-- I think it helps young guys and girls realize that just because you have sex or use a condom does not mean you are protected from an unwanted pregnancy. Many people appear to use this site to gain sexual education. I think that it is great that real people with real situations and real warnings post and warn or advise women and young people about pregnancies. It is very informative. I am thankful to everyone who has been supportive to answering people who are wondering or scared and have no one that they can turn to about these situations. Kinda like the mom most of us never had.

I seriously didn't know a think until i started reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. I'm on chapter 10 now and have learned so so much.
I think a lot of the women/girls who know so little can attribuite their lack of knowledge to misinformation, or health classes that teach you when you turn 13 you get your period, you have a 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14!
I think it is essential for every woman to understand more about their bodies! It totally does amaze me, though.

Not at all. Many parents seem to think if they don't talk about sex their children won't think about it. Further, some people think there is something "dirty" and "wrong" about having sexual thoughts so they don't ask questions in their face-to-face relationships. The only way they are going to know is to pick up a book or go ask anonymously on-line.
BTW, someone was raked over the coals yesterday for asking to see a video about natural child birth. It's strange how it's okay to talk about masturbation, looking sexy, etc. but someone wanting to educate herself about the process was basically vilified (the question is in my group of answers).

Amazingly enough, you can get pregnant while in your period, rare but it happens, and don't take my word for it, research it yourself. every body's period and ovulation time is different and the sperm stay alive for a while, it could be up to five days so you never know, and sometimes you might be late in your period and not be pregnant, I don't consider none of those questions absurd or stupid, plus remember that probably a lot of those questions are asked by teenagers and they don't know to much of anything but to open their legs when they shouldn't have to.

You Go Buffyfan, from my previous answer on another question tonight I personally think you need to be 22 or older to understand the whole sex thing, & baby making needs to be serious & with a proper commitment..

I know where your coming from and deep down im sure they know that its always best to speak to a doctor...however some of these people may be embarrassed to see a doctor and they ask questions anonymously for some sort of comfort and reassurance.

Because when they should be in school learning about these things in Home Ec., they are skipping school to do....well you know what! AND a lot have to do with parents who live in denial......denial being that THEIR son or daughter won't ever do those things, and if they did then the CHILDREN would be responsible enough what to do!!!! This is one crazy world we live in!

Because a *certain* party of this wonderful government of ours only talks about abstinence, and not birth control/std's/pregnancy. "condom" is not a 4-letter word!

Could be they didn't have anyone else to ask. Maybe, this is as good as it gets for them...
Some people are not as lucky as others and have mothers or friends they can talk to...
