haha that's pretty ironic. and i'll tell you why i think so. because in many, many other countries and languages, soccer is "football"
examples ---
spanish : fútbol
french : football
german : Fußball
portuguese : futebol
norweigan : fotball
english : soccer

For whatever reason, soccer is just not popular in North America. Baseball, football, and basketball are the clear favorites sports-wise.
We need to develop a national, professional soccer league.
The media also needs to focus more attention on the sport, that's absolutely crucial because many people don't even know the rules and terms of the game, like me!

Here's the difference:
When a field goal kicker in football misses one wide right, the team is mad, the fans are mad. He blew it.
When a field goal kicker in soccer misses one wide right, everybody cheers a "good try". That's because they are so desperate for ANY action at all, any reason to cheer, they'll take it.
Here's another one:
College football finally got rid of ties because, as the classic phrase goes, "a tie is like kissing your sister".
In soccer, people think ties are a good thing. A tie can actually help you.
And lastly:
In a football game, if you get sprayed with a yellow liquid, it's because somebody is sloshing thier beer on you.
In a soccer game, if you get sprayed with a yellow liquid, it's because the moron behind you decided to relieve himself on you so he wouldn't miss the only goal of the entire game.
How much more do you need?

to the majority of the world, american football is one of the most boring games in the world. In fact it's only played in like 5 countries. The fact that there's a Football (soccer) World Cup shows you which sport is truly appreciated worldwide.
I do have a tiny little question, why is american football called like that when the ball is almost never kicked, in fact, you use your hands more than your feet.
Soccer is a much more challenging game, you actually need skills to play it, not just brutal strength.

I don't know....I love soccer, and a lot of young people play it. But it's not a well sponsored sport in the US. On the sports field, soccer has a lot of competing for viewership,. Without major sponsorship, a sport won't get TV air-time. So people in the US aren't use to watching it, so they don't get pump when the World Cup goes on. Personally, I Digg the World Cup. I have Portugal to win.

This American likes Soccer immensely. I takes talent and skill, not just brawn, and the clock keeps running! No damn commercials. No penalty for (too much time), when a "second" 'too long snapping the ball, but then, they use every whistle to go for commercials and the players and game are held up for 3 to 6 minutes!

Because soccer doesn't come with hot chicks in tiny skirts and half-time shows filled with even more hot chicks in tiny skirts. I think it also has something to do with the fact that you don't use your hands in soccer and while that seems a lot more difficult than just running around with a ball under your arm - American men, to generalize them, are very simple-minded.
Did I mention hot chicks in tiny skirts? Oh, and for the ladies - hot men in tight pants.
I honestly don't know why. I am not a big fan of either and prefer to spend my time with more intellecutal programming and events.

Because it is a low scoring game and there is no tackling like in American football. Most Americans expect to see a high score when a game is played for a total of ninety minutes.
To them all they see is a total of twenty-two gusy running back and forth for ninety minutes with a final score of say 1-0.
But heavens forbid you have a negative comment about basketball, baseball or American football; especailly basketball.
and poster Toddo from M... has proven my point of a negative attitude about soccer.

Having been in your situation, I would have to say that it's not high scoring enough for Americans. I used to hate it too until I attended a match in England. Another reason could be there are too many tie games for their taste. We seem to like clear cut winners in the events we attend. Just look what hapened to the NHL with the shoot-outs. Lord Stanley probably rolled over in his grave when that happened.
