Depends on what y'wanna use it for. Me, I prefer something really big - to haul my gear when the Mrs. and I go camping on weekends. See, we reenact the American Civil War. I'm a regimental surgeon and have to carry gear appropriate to a regimental field hospital, and she's a Sanitary Commission worker and needs gear appropriate to that. All of which translates into BIG! And my 15-passenger van is actually a touch too small to haul all that and the two of us!
Oh - you were asking about ordinary passenger cars. In that case, a nice, economical compact truck - I can't get in and out of smaller cars due to arthritis. 'N that big ol' van is a gas hawg!

well at time right now, I highly recommend a new corolla. I had one for 3 years and everything is cheap! Gas and fiancing was a plus. But my corolla is modded so I like it a lot.

Any Honda's are perfect.(Honda accord v6, Integra, civics) They last longer and you save money on gasoline. Good luck.
