I think that the other alternitives should be more abundant. As for the gas prices we can do something smart and simple start buying from the little/local guy, rather then the big name companies. In my town we have 3 smaller companies around me and they are almost always 5cents cheaper then the big guys like EXXON, and MOBILE and TEXACO so try that too.

the gas price can definately be lower and still maintain a reasonable profit for the oil companies. Alternative energy source is not going to be implemented after a few decays. The vehicles we are driving cannot support pure alternative energy. It can't only take about 10%. I don't think the huge profit the oil companies made are going to invest in researching and developing alternative energy.

Alternatives: horse and buggy, shoe leather, stay at home more, consume less plastics (made from petrol chemicals) and take up national skate boarding.
Our ancestors used the first three alternatives and they survived.
Gas prices are a creature of the consumers demand for the product. So long as we drive as usual, fill up our cars as usual, and pay the price at the pump, gas will remain high. If we cut consumption, prices will go down. It is a simple economic principle of price vs. supply. High demand (supply) equals high prices, regardless of the cost of oil on the market.

Ever heard of sugar cane? Well down in South America there is already cars and companies producing sugar cane driving automobiles. Sugar is not only cheap but extremely abundant, think about it. Its a plant that you can grow from seeds and the ones that you grow from seeds produce more seeds. So what is the problem? Bush does not want to pursue the alternative fuel line. Not only is sugar cane a good idea its burn almost as clean as gasoline but without the pollutants that modern day cars give off. Would you agree this is a good idea? Why aren't we doing this?

There already ARE alternatives, but the gas companies are hard at work trying to keep them from being implemented...cos guess what happens if we start using an alternative and no one buys gas anymore, or not as much? Yep...they lose money, and we can't have THAT now, can we?

Walk, ride a bike, car pool, lots of ways to use less energy. Ok, everybody stop giggling, when gas reaches 4 or 5 a gallon you might consider driving less.

We don't have much choice short term but to pay the price.
The higher cost will drive the development of alternate energy sources but they will be expensive too.

Wouldn't it be good if everyone in Australia was to not buy petrol or gas for one week. That would throw fuel companies into disarray as they wouldn't have any where to store there fuel. Maybe that would make them wake up that we Aussies know what we want.

I say we protest it by not buying oil till the prices go down. Have you every imagined what would happen if oil was not bought for one day in America? OPEC would loose Billions of dollars just for that one day. If we never bought oil, the oil companies would do everything in their power to get us to buy it. I like that option....Just think No oil bought=No money for them=Out of business for them

this is an idea i came up with a couple days ago: e85 flexfuel hybrids, we would use alot less gas and over 85% of it is renewable so it could tide us over until we find a real alternative
