The period, time of blood flow in menstruation, means that there will be no baby this month. The uterus prepares itself for new life to grow there by filling up with extra blood and tissue in case the egg gets fertilized. If the egg continues on the path without being fertilized, the extra tissue is broken up and flows out of the woman's body.
