Thank goodnes for "Subslavekinky" and the 372 other intelligence people in the world! Where would we be without you?
Getting back to the original question...
Observations have shown us that space is flat, but have not ruled out that the dimensions that make it up are straight and infinite. In fact, the common concesus is that space is finite with no borders.
To get an idea of what that means, think of a stick figure drawn on the surface of a sphere. The sphere is two-dimensional, and so the stick figure only has a concept of two dimensions. He cant see out of or into the sphere.
Suppose the stick man wanted to go to the edge of his universe; he'd start walking in one direction hoping to find it, but eventually, he'd go all the way around the sphere and wind up back where he was when he started! He would be totally unable to explain this, but if he were a very clever scientist, he might conclude that his universe was two-dimensional, finite, and without boundries.
Our univierse appears (based on astronomical data) to be three dimensional, finite in extent, and without boundries.

It only makes your head hurt if you have a brain and know how to use it .This means that only you,me and 372 other people in this modern so called improved world we live in get a sore head when thinking about such things. If you dont like sore heads buy a playststion and you will never have to think about anything ever again.

Oh man, I love thinking about it but you're right, it makes me sleepy! It has to be one of the hardest things to comprehend, infinity. It's just so hard to imagine either something that never, ever ends (which is my belief) or something that stops, with nothing beyond it. I mean, the thought of nothing hurts my head. How can there be nothing? But how can there be no end? Does it really just go on and on and on? AAAHHHH!! Damn you!! Now I won't be able to go to sleep tonight....

Trying to comprehend an infinity using a brain designed to process things only in close proximity (either virtual or physical) is going to be a painful task.
I feel the same way as you do. The magnitude of space is disturbing.
