Yes, Jean-Luc Picard's family is French.
You noticed something (his British accent) that you were not supposed to notice. By the way, now that we're talking about accents - Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) also has a British accent.
Have a lovely rest of the evening.

There are several inaccuracies about the captain. This is the most obvious one. He was born and grew up in France on the family vineyard. It was never explained in the show but all I can think of is how dumb and funny a captain with a french accent would have sounded in some of those scenes.
oh well, live long and prosper.

It's set in the 24th century, and people could transport around at will. Countries don't mean much, it was just supposed to be everyone on the planet as one big happy family. So, people with British accents could come from France.

Yeah, that's a bit odd. He was supposed to be from a French family, raised in a vineyard. Yet he sounds British (actor Patrick Stewart is of course British), he drinks Earl Gray tea and he loves Shakespeare.

Yes. He was born in France, that makes him French.

Ha! I wondered that too. It seemed from the episode in which he visited his family that they were French. And his name certainly is French. Well, Patrick Stewart is English, so we just have to kick our suspension of disbelief into overdrive.
