Well I have to agree. Just about every movie by Kurosawa is INCREDIBLE. I LOVE "Seven Samurai." But probably my favorite Kurosawa movie is "Ran". As far as other foreign flicks:
Le Trou - French
Insomnia - The original Norwegian version
The 39 Steps - UK
M - Germany
The Killer - Hong Kong
Battleship Potemkin - USSR (when it still was USSR)

Just as claimed on the cover art it is "one of the best films you will ever see". The cinematography is amazing, the acting is top-notch, the story is not only gripping, but it is told so beautifully that I didn't even mind all the disturbing violence, AND is it based on the main character's real life.
You should watch this film. Anyone reading this answer should watch this film. It truely is a work of art.
Note Worthy: It is the first film by director Fernando Meirelles, director of The Constant Gardner.

That's a toughie. I would have to say Crouching Tiger with Amelie a close second. Crouching Tiger is a great love story. A warrior who traveled the world and fought great battles told his love interest "I've wasted my whole life" as he is dying. Amelie is so colorful, deep scenarios, has a lot to say about love, drinking coffee, childhood influences, helping other people, etc. But the kicker ... the roaming Knome!

From some time ago..."Fantastic Planet"...great animated science fiction movie and a deep underlying meaning. The movie blew me away. It was produced in Soviet occupied Czechoslovakia in the early 1970s.

The City of Lost Children by Jeunet & Caro - see it and you'll know why. Too much to mention. Anything by them is fantastic!
Also Queen Margot. Actually - all things French. They are cinematic masters!

"Life is Beautiful" great performances. Come on he makes the Holocaust look like it's summer camp to his kid. One of the best movies I've ever seen. I can't even bring myself to watch it again, so depressing.
