Perhaps it is a stereotypical look perpetuated by Hollywood. Not every professor wears a tweed jacket, smokes a pipe, drives a small foreign car, and sports a beard.

I would have to say because they can, there are a lot of jobs out there and most them limit you to just a mustache. Shaving is a pain and growing a beard is a distinctly male privilege. I kinda biased because I like to where a beard. And from my point of view there are three types of non-bearded men, those who can't grow one, those who are forced not to where one, and pretty boys whose feminine features would be hidden by one.

I have 3 degrees and don't remember ever having a professor with a beard... must be something about were we live.

It's the uniform du jour of your basic liberal meathead. Oh yeah, look for the Birgenstock sandals, corduoroy pants, mershaum pipe, and the Volvo station wagon with the bumper-sticker that says, "PEACE(that's sane)". I hope every conservative parent in the country raises their children up to become college professors one day, so we can take back our campuses.

I have never had a professor with any facial hair. Hmm. Maybe it's where you're located. If it's a busy city, then maybe no time. LOL!
