My husband and I just visited the obgyn about two weeks ago and she said the babys heart beat was 170 beats per minute. So I was just curious if any one knew for sure how to tell what the sex is?

There's an old wive's tale (actually, this one is an old *doctor's* tale) that says that girls are more likely to have faster heartbeats. If it's true *at all*, it's only true statistically. In other words, just because men are taller than women, doesn't mean that any *particular* man is taller than any *particular* woman. Same with babies' heartbeats. (If this is working for you, it means a girl, though.)

heartbeat doesn't really tell you anything but that of the babies condition. normal range for heartbeats is 140 to 170 in many women. as the baby is actually being born, the heart rate is also used to see if the baby is in distress. 120 or below or to high means the baby is in distress and the c-section is performed. any doctor thinking they can tell the baby's sex by heart rate needs to go back to medical school. i have had two kids and only the sonagram will tell you and thats even hard to really see in the photo. as a medic years ago i delivered many babies and the heart rate only tells you how the baby is doing for the most part.

You can only tell the sex of a child from seeing what chromosomes it has. XX is a girl and XY is a boy.
You cant tell any toher way, not even by looking at their genitals since their internal organs might be different. To know for sure the chromosomes tell. Yoiu can get a test done, but im not sure what the name is, ask doctor, good luck sweety

In theory, a female fetus or baby has a faster heart rate. But it's much more accurate to just find out (if that's what you want) around the 18th-22nd week. During that period, you can in most cases see the sex of the child through ultrasound.

A female baby usually has a more rapid heart rate, you are kind of in the middle so it's hard to tell, but coming from a veteran of 8 screamin meemies, I'm going to lean towards a girl. Keep in mind I am only guessing.

Sorry, it's just an old wives' tale. According to the theory, my daughter should have been a boy. It all depends on what your baby is doing while they measure, what you've been eating, and the baby's physiology and temperament.

I've heard over 150 is a girl, under is a boy, but I don't know how accurate that is - my doctor believes it, though, and it was right for my daughter... it really is an old wives tale, I think.

I've always heard that a boys heartbeat is 140 or below and a girls is 140 or above. I had a daughter and hers was always around 153
