I don't know what it would cost to buy a good used one, but a Grand Prix with a 3.8 (3800 litre) engine is a pretty fast car and gets amazing mileage for a 6 cylinder.. much better than many 4 cylinder cars. If you can get an older Grand Prix from 1997 to about 2001, with that engine.. must be that engine.. you'll be happy with it. I have one.. I spent the money to do mechanical work to it so I could keep it.. that's how pleased I am with it!

I think that the best car the fits that bill would be the Ford Mustang. It's not cheap like a Cavalier or a Kia. But for the price, you get a lot of car.

87-98 Mustangs are almost always less than $12K used and are very fast compared to the average sedan. Modified they can create excess of 400HP...some daily driven machines in supercharged form can exceed 600 on Premium fuel.

I don't think cheap and nice go together. Try a new V6 Camry for fast and nice. Not too expensive either.
