Recently I had this same problem. I had a few older pieces of furniture with a lot of years of wax and oil build up. Mix a cup of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice to make a paste. Apply with a damp sponge and let sit for 30 minutes. Wet the sponge a little more and start to rub it gently, a little harder if it's an especially tough looking area. Use a clean wet sponge to remove and dry with a soft cloth.

How about TSP, you use it to clean wall before you paint them to remove grease etc, I used it to scrub floor moldings, made a concentrated soln and used a tooth brush. took off finish and grime. good luck
