No you can be 1 centimeter for ever I wouldn't worry to much. You need to wait at least 3 more weeks to insure the baby comes home with you and is not considered a "premi". If your worried just slow down your activities some and that will help and don't have to much sex! No seriously when you get closer to 9 months that can help start contractions.

Unfortunately, no. Labor requires your body to go through several changes all within the same time frame. One happening without the others does no good. I was a 3 for 5 weeks with one, a 4 for 3 weeks with one, and a 2 for 5 weeks with the other. Just depends on your body. Also, I know at 34 weeks you are more than ready mentally and tired, but chances are pretty slim that you would naturally go into labor this early on your own. Some do, but not often.

no, it doesn't mean that you would, i have been dilated for a month and i went into what the doctor called false labor last december 18, but you know what, i delivered my Samirah Blythe last January 17,2006 a month after thru caesarian operation. I depends since i had my first 2 babies delivered normally but then when it's time for my 3rd baby, she won't even come out even if my cervix was already 9cm dilated... she came out about 4kgs total body weight, maybe that's also another reason...so when you are near your due, watch what and how much you eat and walk a lot...it will help. be sure to check on your ob-gyne too. email me if you want: sllzm6185@yahoo.com

No I was 3 centermeters dilated for three weeks and still nothing, at 40 weeks my doc broke my plug still nothing then they induced me at 41 weeks and then I ended up in an emergency c-section after 19 hours of labor 4 hours of pushing and that was just to long for words.

No. I was dilated at four centimeters for almost 4 months. Sometimes the cervex will open slightly. As long as your doctor isn't worried, you don't need to worry.
Calm down "Bob" sometimes people just need reasurance from other's that may have been there.
How does everyone think she knows that she is dilated to 1 cm? Her doctor told her.

Was your doctor the one that checked you and told you were 1 cm? i think that if he would have been concerned he would have monitored you in L&D or told you to be on bedrest. The whole plug issue is irrelevant-Your plug has NOTHING to do with when you will have your baby. Many people stay dilated for a long time.

No that doesn't mean that, but you should check with your doctor on it. Here's a website that will help you know what to expect at 34 weeks and what's going on with your body.

Not necessarily. You can stay at 1cm for a few weeks, even a month!
No worries - I doubt you'll go into preterm labor (before 37 weeks)

not really. You could be dialated 1CM for as long as 6 weeks or more. With my first I was 1CM for a month or so, with my second I was 2 CM for about 2.5 months (early Jan to late March when I gave birth).

it just depends. Some women dialate early before they are ready for child birth. Yes, it is a sign your body is getting ready though. Your doctor can determine on your next appointment. If you start having contractions then it is time to go.
