Does anyone out there have this situation/and how do you cope? My son died before his girlfriend delivered their son. I get along well with Mom and the 'new dad". But does anyone else there understand and feel the pain of knowing my son should be called Daddy? Why does it hurt so much to hear the new Dad being called daddy, even when I know he is a good guy.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss of your son, I'm sure it's very hard for you. Always close contact with your grandchild and tell them every day how much their daddy would have love them. Give your grandchild pictures of their daddy and tell them what a good daddy he would have been. I don't think your pain will ever heal because that was your child that you lost. It might be a little better in time but the pain will always be there on more days than others like Birthdays, Christmas and any other days that were special in his life... May God bless you and your grandchild.......Keep your head up and Know how proud your son is of you for being there for his child...

well, the memory of your son will always live on through your grand kid and thank the man up stares to bless him with a kind person and the mother. your son will not be forgotten just because someone else has moved in and has stepped up after your son passed. keep your sons pictures around the home and tell your grand kid about his father from the time he was a kid. so he can form his own ideas of what his father was like. sorry for your loss...

you know, it okay to feel sad like that. but now, you have to think about ur grandchildren. he had a part of your son in his blood. now he's the only one who keep the most precious part left from your son. just talk to the new daddy and your daughter in-law if you want to keep ur son's photograph to remind ur grandchild.

Because you love your son. And that is totally normal. YOU are grieving still. So it hurts. Time will heal your wounds. Only time.

Because you feel as if you miss your son more than the child's mother doses.

that is natural to feel like that, in time it should hurt less. keep pictures and stuff around so the child knows who his real dad is.
