laptop processors naturally are slower than desktop ones. I'm sure Amd can run all the applications intel can. your celeron probably can't run some programs smoothly but it can probably run them slowly.

Yes depending on the model, laptops are just as fast as their counterparts.

The system specs must be considered though.

The difference between a Celeron and the P4 for example is the L2 cache. The P4 usually pushes twice the data through the pipes.

A comparison would be two systems where the only thing that differs is the CPU.

System 1 = P4 1.6GHZ, 512 L2 Cache
System 2 = Celeron 3.0 GHZ, 256 L2 Cache

These two systems would preform about equal.

The hype over AMD is only because they don't lock their chips and this gives the overclockers a nice toy to play with.

There is no difference between Laptops and Desktops
GHZ's is GHZ's, L2 is L2, RAM is RAM etc...

In-fact the AMD mobile chips are usually favored over desktops because they stay alot cooler which allows more stable overclocking.

Now when it comes to gaming any serious gamer will tell you an independent video card is a must. You will want a good sized one too!

I disagree with people saying that you can't find an independent video card in a celeron.

I have one here with a Mobility Radeon and new the laptop cost less than $1000 .

I don't game with it so it doesn't matter, but they are out there!

Heavy gaming, no. I think that is enough said. For heavy gaming, you'll have to find a laptop with a dedicated graphics card and at least 1GB of memory. And typically, a celeron based laptop will not come with a dedicated card.

Coreldraw, sure you'll be able to run it. Games however is another story. You won't be able to do any heavy gaming on that laptop. For reasons I do not understand people around here don't seem to like Acer laptops (I have no need for good tech support) and I like this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115246 at only $1069, it has all the features you will need.

AMD is the best right now Intel seems to have some trouble with large applications and specially games, but if anything if your are gonna be playing games i would go with an AMD athlon....and remember lots of memory and a good Video card

AMD is the best company for anything multimedia for a varity of reasons. some of them are higher fsb speeds, its memory controller, its cheaper.

and no i doubt u will ever game anything over solitaire on a celeron. celerons and semprons are budget processors. need i say more? picture it like this a mainstream p4 or athlon proc's are lets say ferrari's, semprons and celerons are like lets say a dodge neon

although i have done some gaming with a sempron it worked ok...

listen to what conradj213 says hes hit it spot on....only high end laptops with a dedicated graphics card will be suitable for gaming...prices will start around the $4000 for one of those possibly running the new Duo Core CPU's too.
