"FLIMO" OK this is what I have already done...... I took all of the wires off. Unplugged it from the wall, sucked out the dust with a vaccuum, set the computer on the drawers beside my desk, and hooked it all back up. It is running fine now and the only thing I know is that their was quite a bit of dust on the back of the computer... And the carpet behind it.. We will see if it goes ok from here..... It is a new computer but the person using it, ME, knows very little about it...

It's a bad place to sit it under the table when someone could just walk by and accidentally kick it. Plus, it's under a desk so air circulation is limited (unless you have an old pc). Build-up of dust occurs faster and the exhaust of air gets sucked in again and again like a big cycle.

Yes.
I'm amazed at the care people give other things but treat their computers like junk. It needs to be keep clean, dust free, inside and out. But if you don't know how to clean the inside, don't do it. No the dust did not knock you off line. However, carpet makes a lot of dust over time, and static electricity. That's not good for the computer either.

Normally this isn't a problem as laptops are designed to be used in harsher than normal environments. I disagree with the ESD suggestion, ESD can only take an effect on the hardware if the cover of the device was off. The only possibility was that if you had an incredibly dusty carpet, the intake for the airvents might have gotten a little dust in them, but again laptops are designed for this. What is happening is probably related to your internet service and your computers connection to it.

yep dust can affect the performance. When dust gets into the computer, it decreases the ventelation which is needed to keep computer parts cool. But if its a computer, it is usually ok to put on the carpet, however if you have a laptop, be careful. Laptops don;t have very good ventelation system generaly, that why they get hot on the bottom. And carpet kinda keeps the heat from escaping, so the laptopcan get very hot and shut down thatway.
But PCs and desktops are usually ok to have on the carpet.

Dust.... plus, there might be an issue with static electricity as well. I know that, whenever you work inside a pc you should leave it plugged in so it's grounded.... that way, if there's static electricity, you won't fry anything inside... maybe when it's directly on the floor on a carpet, it's effected by static electricity directly.. it's a thought.. try getting if off the floor.. even if you build a small wooden shelf about 2" high.. might help

Static is very bad for a computer so get it off the floor and never use a vacuum to clean the dust off or out of it. Use compressed air.

Sitting on the carpet won't "knock you offline". The only thing cleaning the dust on it would do would be make it run better - hope you cleaned the dust from INSIDE the case as well...

it could just be the wires or the internet in general. Also i would try to see if there is dust in the fan thingy. if there is i would use a brush to dust it. cause dust can get into the computer too.

Dust does not interfere with internet connection. You might have a bad cable. Dust just blocks ventilation which could cause to an overheated processor which would be bad.
