These are very nice collectibles.
Generally, the better the condition of the doll, the better the value. Being in the box, unopened, is worth more than a doll that has been played with.

PBS has a show called "antiques roadshow". Go to www.pbs.org to find a link to the show. I am willing to bet the show site has information on how to determine the value of your own antiques.

Your best bet would be to get it professionally appraised (instead of relying on web info).

www.yp.yahoo.com is a great source for finding local antique companies' telephone numbers.

Hey:) Im 16 and i've had many Madame Alexander and American Girl dolls. Personally, i think that a American Girl doll would be much better suited for your daughter. Madame Alexander's are nice but I remember when i would get them I wouldn't be too excited because there more of a doll you look at and keep as a collectors item. If I was seven and you gave me a American Girl doll for christmas I would be jumping of the walls. Hope this helps!:)
