As human beings we tend to project onto our friends and loved ones. We are usually in love with the person we want them to be instead of really paying attention to who they are. My mantra is "people are what they do, not what they say". It's usually actions that cause problems in a relationship, those actions are contrary to who we think the person is and we suddenly wake up and notice that they aren't who we thought they were.
Research has shown that a majority of relationships that endure are ones that have things they hate in common more than things they love. When we enter into a relationship we focus on all the things we have in common, but again, those are words. Sometimes we just really want it to work out so we SAY we love football because he does......etc. He does the same thing, sometimes agreeing with things because he wants it to work out. In other words, relationships are so complex and sometimes difficult. It's a miracle if anybody truly knows anyone else!
Good Luck, Laura

Yes I did the last person I dated I thought I knew him and once the relationship was over seems like all the lies and the real truth came out.

Yes, several times in my life and most notably my own family quite often though none of them nearly as much as my last wife. Turns out she was a complete stranger, among other things I'd just as soon not remember.

Yes that has happened to me before and it was the biggest wake up call I have ever gotten. Women aren't always nice and smell good, some of them lie!
