If it's not true, where did that myth come from?

Not true in either case. I don't know where the myth came from (with Penguins, it's probably because they mostly mate with one partner seasonally). You may want to read the source book.

The only time I have ever heard about the lobsters mating for life was on an episode of "Friends'--LOL

Penguins raise one offspring together, however they are rarely together during the gestation period. rent March of the Penguins. It's a really good movie.

Penguins yes as do Geese and Swans.
