War is a little more complicated than you imagine.

It almost seems funny to see movies depicting war during our Revolutionary period. Men would stand in a line and wait their turn to fire a shot. Opposing generals would have elegant lunches with one another and discuss the fine points of how the battle should be waged in a civilized manner, and at what time they should begin.

War has always had a military code of behavior. For example, if you surrender, you are supposed to be guaranteed medical attention to treat your wounds, food, and treatment that befits a person of your rank in the army. If you surrender, the enemy is bound by internationally recognized military codes of ethics. They cannot say, "Oh, it's too much bother to imprison you. We'll just shoot you now and get it over with".

When Bill O'Reilly talks about insurgents killing women and children, he is talking about a severe breach in the rules of military engagement. Soldiers are only supposed to fight one another. Civilians are off limits. Wars are fought to make it impossible for the enemy to continue fighting. The general population of a country is not part of the fighting force. As long as they do not fight, they cannot be charged with war crimes.

It may sound funny to you, but if there was no exercise of self-restraint in war, it would be complete chaos and barbarism. If everyone participated in the fighting, how could one side offer a truce, or surrender? How could one army lay down its arms if there was no assurance they would not be slaughtered once they gave up their weapons?

Do you know why we can't negotiate with terrorists? Because they do not owe their allegiance to any single government. If we wanted to make a deal with the terrorists, who could enforce the terms of the deal? Who would be authorized to speak on behalf of the terrorists? It just doesn't work this way in the real world.

Bill O'Reilly has a great book for kids. I hope you will read it, and I hope you continue your interest in politics. The world needs young people as inquisitive and as interested in world events as you are.

NO, he is not weird. Just very outspoken and not afraid to say what he thinks. The thing with women and children is that we have been stereotyped as being weaker. Usually the men are the ones out fighting and no they might get killed. But people who are to kill even women and children are cowards! It does matter to him that our men are also being killed, he just wants to stress the point that these cowards are killing the women and children also.

He is doing a lot to help get sexual predators off the streets. He fights tooth and nail against these judges that are letting these predators off with little or no punishment. I'd rather have someone like Bill O'Reilly on my side than President Bush!

I just emailed this question to Bill O'Reilly. Maybe he'll respond to you himself. As for these allegations that others are making about him, let he cast the first stone who is without sin.

You're very confused, but you are with the right man. Bill O'Reilly knows what he is taking about, to put it simply, the bad guys are killing men, women and children. Women and children are people in society that are looked at as easy to attack and the bad guys know it would offend a lot of people if they killed them.

Men are looked at as stronger people so men go and fight in war.

You're a smart kid for watching Bill O'Reilly at such a young age, keep watching and you learn to hate the spin.

Because he's republican. And a fearmonger. And thus, a right-wing nutcase.

Why? Because he portrays himself as an ideal Christian family man, who holds his head high with morals and values, but fails to act the part. An example is when he got hit with a lawsuit for sexually harassing an inferior co-worker on his set, who claimed he would call her attempting to engage in phone sex and persisting after her repeatedly telling him she was not interested.
The sad thing about this is the fact that Bill O'Reilly is a married man with a family. O'Reilly settled the lawsuit to keep it under wraps before it got too big.
He also doesn't give his guests room to speak if their ideas differ from his. When they're proving him wrong, he tells his techies to "cut his mic."

Thus, he is wierd.

Young man, Bill O riely is a godsend. Try listening to him again. I fought in the korean war and will kick any hippyasses all day long

You should listen to Bill more often and he will guide you through the liberal media.

Hippys and liberals have a disease and believe in communism. See they don't like black or jewish people and hate and despise them. People like them began the holocaust.

"As for these allegations that others are making about him, let he cast the first stone who is without sin."'

Sounds like some more hippy crap to me.

He was right when he said that 10 years later we as Americans, well the whole world really knows that they were Muslims and when he says that, he is referring to extremists. Don't be so sensitive. I get crap about being Mormon and being a polygamist. Even though Mormons haven't practiced it over 100 years. We need a little understanding here.
