Shyness is not a disease, there are actually some virtues when you think about it.
I suggest spending time doing activities that you enjoy. Concentrate on the activity and find things about the other people that you can compliment them on or that you like about them.
Pick nice people to socialize with, people who like you just as you are.
If you try something new and it feels uncomfortable, trust your instincts. You are not required to do things that you don't like doing.
Do you like to read? Join a book discussion group.
Is there a sport you'd like to get better at? Take some group lessons (everyone is learning).
Or try something new by taking one of those parks & rec classes.

Try a public speaking course.
Another thing is to learn what things you enjoy, such as hobbies. As you develop confidence, some shyness disappears. Not all of it, though!
You could also try zero-ing in on one or two people to avoid feeling overwhelmed, or setting a time limit to social events to again, keep from getting overwhelmed. Stretch yourself by adding more time to the outings, & you'll grow in your comfort level.

Well therapy really helps, i was takin it for some time, now i talk to much, but im having lots of more fun in life, and meeting lots of new interesting people....but back to you
I think it depends on "wat u do" to over come shyness.... just hang with people that u feel comfortable around, try to look your best at all times, no i take that back look the way that u feel most comfortable, and slowly make conversation with new people, if there worth your time then they will start replying back to you and then you'll end up will tons of friends, but it does take time

with time... You can overcome shyness on your own. Sometimes people fight shyness by "pretending" to be somebody else. Like being another personality, that may cause some mental problems later on in life. Don't pretend to be anything that you aren't. Dont be afraid. Fear is the number one killer of dreams! Remember that... okay?

Yes, sure there is. If meeting new people makes you shy, go out and say that you will meet 10 new people today or something. Or start out slow, meet one today, three tomorrow, and gradually build up until you are not shy anymore.

start small. try saying hello to at least one stranger a day. and try making small talk with people you see all the time, mailman, UPS guy, grocery store clerk. then use those skills in other places such as bookstore, bar, whereever.

If your shyness is associated with fear, panic and anxiety, then see your doctor to find out whether an anti-anxiety drug (such as Xanax) is right for you.
