It seems that in my dreams that I have knowledge of things which I don't have a clue about while awake. For instance,in a recent dream I had, I was teaching a class of chemistry students.I was able to explain in detail various chemical reactions and answer specific related questions. The fact is my knowledge of chemistry is very poor, as I never really studied it or had any interest in it.How can this be??

It has been proven that people use only a very small portion of their brain. Maybe in dreams we use more of our brains and possibly know extremely more than we realize. Just a guess.

People often appear to have a knowledge of things in their dreams which they know nothing about in real life. Upon waking, they may be convinced that they actually revealed some mysterious, hidden knowledge during sleep that they are unable to reveal when awake. This leads them to believe that they may have acquired the knowledge in a previous life, but this is not the case. Studies have shown that the knowledge they apparently displayed during sleep was actually nothing more than gibberish.

For example, many people experience bilingualism or an ability to speak in tongues or to speak some ancient language in spite of being monolingual in real life. When these people are awakened during the dream and asked to repeat what they were saying in the dream, or if they are asked to write down what they said shortly after waking, it usually turns out to be gibberish.

In other words, these experiences occur when the brain pieces together nonsensical words or concepts in a way that imitates the structure of real knowledge. The sleeping individual is of course convinced that the knowledge is real, just as he is convinced that the setting for the dream is real, at least while he is asleep.

If you awoke and realized that the information you revealed in your dream was not gibberish but actually made sense, I would suspect that the knowledge is not as far-fetched as you think and that you perhaps learned it when you were younger but forgot you knew it. If you were actually able to discuss some very detailed, abstract, difficult theory of chemistry during sleep and then recall the entire explanation once you awoke, I would be more fascinated with the fact that you actually remembered everything you said during your sleep than that you said something in your sleep that made sense!

How do you know the details you explained in your dream were correct if you never studied it? You just had the impression that you were giving the right answers in your dream. My interpretation is that you feel overwhelmed in the job you have now and you're always thinking that someone is going to discover that you don't know as much as they think you do. Go back and take some evening classes in something you felt you never really understood when you were in school.

Your dreams are based on what you think of during the day. If you were thinking about chemistry, you most likely would have a dream about it too. I don't think the whole significant knowledge thing means anything...

i'm very spiritual ... so i believe in past lives ...
maybe a reasonable explanation to those dreams could be found on the believe that on your past lives you knew what you seem to know now on your dreams.
if you are not spiritual, and or, if you don't believe on past lives .. then the most logical explanation to those dreams would be that you seem to retain on your brain stuff you may have seen at least once ... and during your dreams your brain seems to let it all out ... giving you the sensation that during your dreams you know more than when you are awake, but in reality, you are just not aware of what you really know while consient.

Are you sure you never had an interest in chemistry? Are you sure you are not good at it?

People have dreams because they want to escape from reality. In your mind, you want to do well; however, you can't do it in real life. Therefore, you strive to do it well in your dream.

it is normal!
