Just be a friend...still hang out with him...nothings changed...he's the same person as he was before he came out...he just happens to be gay.
As for loving God..straight people don't have the market on that front anyone can love God an worship Him...it's people who put limits on that.

I had the same thing happen to me with my best friend of five years. It was wierd at first, the best advice I can give is to not change a thing. That is probably what your friend wants, is to know he is still the same person in your eyes. He trust you, or he wouldn't have chose to tell you. Don't act disgusted if he shares stories/fantasies with you. And if he adventually tells you that he has feelings for you(which might be the case, that was just for him to feel you out). Let him know if you are or aren't interested in him, and be flattered. He needs you now.

Just tell him that you are still his friend, that you understand he is the same person he was before he told you he was gay, and if he needs to talk to a friend you'll be around. Many gays, lesbians, and bisexauls are Christians. God is love.
Here are some links that might also help you make him feel comfortable coming out and info for you as well.

Take him out somewhere public, to show that you're not scared to be seen with him. Offer him a manly hug (you know, the ones where you pat their back a couple of times - and no grinding) to show that you'll share personal space with him. But mostly, just be at the end of a phone for him, when he needs you to talk to.

So he can't be a Christian, still love God, AND be gay???? How come? If you are any kind of a friend you'll support him no matter what. You don't have to sleep with him!!!!

Be there for him and support him, just listen. Just because he is gay doesn't mean he is going against G-d or the bible, alot of the passages in the bible are taken out of context way to often.

I had one co-worker, when she found out I was gay, who brought me a little personal sized chocolate cake with a rainbow done in frosting. I didn't expect anything, but I was kind of touched and thought it was funny as hell.
Do something little.

Last time I checked, being gay and loving God are not mutually exclusive things. How can you support him? Keep being a friend. Someone's sexual orientation does not change who they are, just who they date and sleep with.

Treat him the same way you normally have. The last thing he wants to feel is - different. If you treat him different then that shows him that him being gay has impacted the way you view him.
He'll come around and open up...follow his lead.
