Bangalore is a nice cosmopolitan city in the south of India. Within the city limits, there are a few places of routine tourist interest to visit, which can be better covered by conducted tours of KSRTC. Shops and Malls, planetarium are reasonably good to visit and fun. Markets of tourist interests are M G Road, Brigade Road, Commercial Street and Chikpet.
However around the city, you can visit on day long tours on almost all the directions. Bannerghatta National Park, Nandi Hills, Jog Falls, Shiv Ganga, Tipu Sultan's Palace and Mysore; Shravanbelagola and Belur-Halebid (Halebeedu) are a few nearby (one day trip) places worth seeing.
Ooty is a hill station, about overnight journey from Bangalore. This place is located in Nilgiri Hills, famous for tea, coffee and spices plantations. A trip outside Ooty town is worth visiting to these plantations. While in Ooty, you can plan to Visit Madhumalai National Wildlife Park. Make sure to stay back in the evening and see teaching and training to elephants in Madhumalai; this can be covered by conducted all paid tours from Ooty itself.
Have a nice time.

Ooty and Mysore are better places to visit compared to Bangalore.
You make a quick local tour in Bangalore and save your time for Mysore and Ooty :-)

If you can make it, I would take a trip to Pondicherry as well. I was only in Bangalore for a few hours and found the Institute of Science fascinating.
