I didnt post this question for you gamers to defend yourselves. It was intended for gamers and NON gamers to explain WHY people can lose their job, drop out of school, and become a total hermit.

It is an escape from the real world.. and its an online community where nearly everyone is accepted.. it is easy to talk to people aswell as you have the option to block them so you dont have to make contact with them ever again

Video games are just a form of entertainment like anything else...they can become addicting but being addicted to something like a computer game is not nearly as bad as some other things people can become addicted to. And for the record I do play games..particularly counterstrike so this is coming from experience. VIDEO GAMES are not a retreat from the real world where if you know the rules you can win. I think what fhornsr said above is absolutely false. That is one of the most absurd things I've ever heard about how games get one away from the reality of the world. I would be willing to bet you don't play video games...don't knock stuff you haven't experienced. Instead of watching TV all day if I have nothing to do, I play video games sometimes nothing wrong with that. Not hurting anyone. And just one other thing the gaming community being accepting to everyone is also false people tend to be even meaner on the Internet because size and experience doesn't matter...you can say whatever you like. This is a bad aspect of the game but it is definitely true. Sorry about the ranting. =\

Mostly fear. Video games are controlled environments where you can always win after you learn the rules. "Real life" has rules, but they are far more complicated and even when you know them, you don't always win. Playing video games to excess is a kind of retreat from what you consider to be an unpleasant reality, just like drugs or alcohol.

I'm on some but not all day...not sure about that controlled environment deal...Heck with the government today...I can see why people play games all day....At least the games do what they say... Amazing

first of all people who say go get a job or do something, hey! have u ever thought people aren't old enough to do this or that, and we play video games because they r fun, it is a whole new world.
